Windows 95 Monitor Settings

Back to Monitor Configuration Page

To set or adjust your monitor's sleep mode in Windows 95: minimize all your open applications; then point your curser at the desk top background and right-click; choose Properties from the pop up menu.

This brings up a dialog box titled "Display Properties". Go to the "Screen Saver" page; next to the ENERGY STAR ® logo you will see two boxes: "Low power standby" and "Shut off monitor".

We recommend checking "Shut off monitor", and setting a time of 10 minutes.  If the setting is too long, you won't save as much energy during meetings and lunch.  You can still keep your screen saver if you have one; usually it would be set to activate in only a few minutes. We recommend not changing the "Low power stand by" boxes unless you consult your technical support staff first.

If you get to this dialog box and the above check boxes are grayed out (you can't select or change them), this means that your monitor is not ENERGY STAR capable, or that Windows 95 doesn't know that it is.  Since most monitors made after 1993 are ENERGY STAR compliant, try this next:

Go to the "Settings" page of this same dialog box...

... and hit the "Advanced Properties" button in the lower right hand corner. You then get another dialog, and on that one go to the "Monitor" page:

Here you can check the "Monitor is Energy Star compliant" box. Click on the "Apply" button; then the "OK" button. Now you should be able to set the power-saving features as described above.

You will need adobe acrobat reader 4+ to view these files.
