Back to Monitor Configuration Page To set or adjust your monitor for sleep mode in a recent Apple computer: go to the Apple (icon) menu in the upper left corner of the screen, choose the "Control Panels" menu item, then the "Energy Saver" control panel. The configuration screens on late versions of the Macintosh operating systems may vary. This screen is from a desktop model with Mac OS v8.6:
We recommend setting the "Separate timing for display sleep" to 10 minutes. If the time delay setting is too long, you won't save as much energy during meetings and lunch. You can still keep your screen saver if you have one; usually it would be set to activate in only a few minutes. Please note, we do not recommend changing the power management settings for "Put the system to sleep...", "...hard disk sleep..." unless you check first with your technical support staff. These features are not as safe as the monitor sleep setting. If they have been turned off, it may be because of a conflict with your network or software. However, if these features are already enabled and you aren't having frequent crashes when away from your desk, then go ahead and leave them on. Another possible form for the "Energy Saver" control panel is below:
This version does not allow for the possibility of putting only the monitor to sleep. If you have a machine with this form of Energy Saver control panel and it is set for some time period other than "Never", you might consider setting to a smaller interval, but only if you are sure the system has been activating from sleep mode without problems.
